Geocache Description:

OBEY PRIVATE PROPERTY SIGNS and do NOT trespass to the hotel itself. You are looking for a magnetic keybox.

This is published as an "Unknown" cache because the true mystery of Hotel Hell is unknown. The cache is at the posted coordinates. Also, this cache has an ALR - an Apparitional Logging Request - where you can earn a bonus 'found it' log. Read on to learn more...if you dare!

On the Outskirts of the quiet town of Maribel, Wisconsin, lies a property originally built as the Maribel Caves Hotel. The hotel was named after the neighboring Cherney Maribel Caves.

Maribel Caves Hotel was built in 1900 by the Steinbrecker family, constructed from limestone from the area. Thirty masons completed the project in just four months. The Steinbrecker family ran it as a health spa hotel and retreat for clergy. When Father Francis died in 1927, the hotel experienced a change in clientele which included bootleggers, mobsters, and prostitutes. Although Al Capone and John Dillinger may have frequented the hotel, there is no evidence of secret passageways or hidden treasures.

The building served for a time as a local tavern and club. It burned in 1985 and was purchased by its current owner in 1986. Despite several grand plans to restore the building, it has sat vacant since then. Over time, reports of various hauntings and an alledged "portal to Hell" that exists in the building have caused the building to has become known as "Hotel Hell," and it is featured on many sites dealing with haunted locations and the occult.

Reported phenomena include:

-There have been a number of sightings of a figure standing at one of the windows peering out.
-Many people have reported hearing strange noises such as voices, screams from the basement, footsteps, ringing bells, rolling wheels, and things moving around upstairs.
-The odor of sewer gases can be smelled in the bathrooms.
-Some have claimed to have seen objects levitate and move.
-In the basement, people have reported having feelings of being threatened.
-On the third floor, people have reported feeling cold hands applying pressure to their back.
-Books found upstairs have reportedly burst into flames.
-Apparitions have reportedly been seen on the front lawn and sitting on the side of the road.
-The ghost of the little boy who died in the bottling factory fire has been seen playing on the roof.
-The building glows brightly during the new moon.
-Blood has been seen on the walls.

The Dare: If you shine your flashlight at a second story window, a ghost will flash a light back at you.
