The suburb of Newtown lies in the southern part of Wellington in New Zealand. The suburb lies east of Vogeltown, between the Wellington city centre and Berhampore. Government House on Rugby Street, Wellington Hospital located on Riddiford Street and Wellington Zoo all lie within the boundaries of Newtown.
The building in the photos and at this intersection is known as “The Wedge” due to the way it is shaped to fit the land available.
The wedge shape building opened in 1907 as the Langham Private hotel.
All the answers to the questions in your quest can be found on the building and the adjacent footpath. There is no need to enter any of the premises to get answers to the questions but a keen eye for detail may be a pre-requisite to success as you will need to observe things at ground level and examine the excellent mural on the Rintoul Street side.
A = Number of metal grills surrounding cabbage trees on footpath minus 3
B = Number of letters in name of largest bird in mural plus first digit in year mural was painted.
C = Number of letters in first word on the two small silvery circular objects pinned to the footpath at the end of the building minus one
D = Number of pohutukawas in the mural
W = Number of letters in first name of the metal cover makers on the cover made in Levin
X = Half the number of letters in mural artist’s surname
Y = Number of letters in word after TePapa at ground level near cabbage trees minus two
Z = No of letters in “Ironwork” maker’s name from London
Check sum A + B + C + D + W + X + Y + Z = 43
Once you have gathered the answers it will be necessary to travel by whatever means you have at your disposal to the Cache location. Feet, bicycle, bus, car etc are all an option but sadly if you wait for a tram it will be a very long wait.
The time it takes to complete this mission will depend on three things. Firstly how observant you are. Secondly how good your counting skills are and thirdly what means of “transport” you use to get to the cache location.
It will be necessary to bring your own writing implement to sign the log. please replace as found as we wouldn’t want those muggles to spot it.
