Many moons ago when hunting was vital to
preparation for the winter season, Native Americans would set traps
for beavers as their furs provided warmth to help make the cold
temperatures more bearable. November was a good month for hunting
beaver since the swamps were not yet frozen. The Farmers Almanac
calls the November full moon the Full Beaver Moon or Frosty
Moon.
To celebrate the Full Beaver Moon I am hosting an
event night hike along the Seaton Trail starting at 7:00pm. If you
have wanted to try this trail in the dark but were apprehensive
about doing this on your own, then this is a wonderful opportunity
to join a group of fellow hikers, sharing stories and keeping a
watchful eye out for the elusive beavers along this
creek.
This event will get started at 7:00pm upon
arrival at the posted coordinates. Introductions with a slight
twist will take place at 7:15pm and the hike will commence at
7:20pm. The event will conclude upon safe arrival back at the
parking area at approximately 10:30pm.
You will need to bring a flashlight or headlamp,
bottle of water and dress appropriately for the weather. The trail
is well marked with some elevation changes and will head north
along the West Duffins Creek in Pickering.
So please join in the fun as we take a walk under
the light of the Full Beaver Moon and keep a watchful eye out for
any wildlife that prowl these woods after dark.
