A series of caches which form a circular walk of around 6 miles from Godstone to Bletchingley and back in 16 stages(or vice versa), using parts of the Greensand Way (GW). Please bring your own pencil as only some of the caches contain one. The caches are a variety of micro and small sizes and there are two larger caches for swaps and trackables. There is a 17th and bonus cache, the co-ordinates for which are listed on the back cover of one of the logs. Dog friendly, and with a few stiles. Mud-wise – the path by the quarry can get quite boggy in winter as it is made from the local Greensand, otherwise should hold up well in all weathers.
All containers had a semi-precious stone in them and some of them coins from countries where one of us has lived.
Car parking is at the Godstone Multi Start Point (N051 14.828 W000 04.002) and the village is well served with 3 pubs, with the Bell and The White Hart being closest. Bletchingley has also got three pubs and you may find the Red Lion, Prince Albert or the Whyte Hart are all within stopping-off distance.
Other caches that might be visited en route include GC1P3AX – a detour to GCHQ8F and GC17CHQ and there might be a puzzle worth solving!
There are a few short spells on the road, but on the section from 13 to 14 you should cut across a field which has a gate marked Coldharbour Lane – this is a public footpath despite the sign being missing.
Hope you enjoy the walk. Please take care approaching and leaving cache 13 – very steep drop.
The first point of interest is the Bronze Age Tumuli or burial mounds – there are three in the field of which one is very prominent.
