Geocache Description:

The CACHE is NOT AT THE ABOVE listed COORDINATES.

The CACHE is NOT AT THE ABOVE listed COORDINATES.

This Multi-Cache Begins at the First Waypoint listed Below. This is one of four multi-caches in my Twilight Movie Tour Challenge. The caches are Spidermonkey GC1ZX2J, Adrenaline Rush GC1ZX1W, La Push GC1ZX26, & Berry Cobbler GC1ZX2V. After finding these you can use the clues you gather from inside each to solve for the Bonus cache, The Lion & the Lamb GC1ZX3G.

This challenge was designed to take you to just about all of the Pacific Northwest filming locations used in the hugely popular 2008 movie, Twilight. This is one in a series of four multi-caches that will lead you to a fifth and final bonus cache. I have dubbed it a challenge because of the distances that must be traveled and the time involved in getting there. At each waypoint, clues are to be gathered in order to solve for the final cache location. Once you have found all four multi-caches and gathered the clues secreted within each, you will have all the information needed to solve for the bonus cache location.

Suggestions: 1) Bring along a calculator, as the math can get tedious after a long day caching. I’ve provided “checksums”, because I don’t want anyone to gather the wrong clues and then not be able to find the cache in the end. 2) You will be racking up many miles, so highway maps of Oregon and Washington may come in handy. Although waypoints are listed in logical order, you may not be familiar enough with the highways to find the shortest route between them without a map. 3) The waypoints for each cache should be done in order, because it does end up cutting down on driving and puts you in good position when searching for the final cache locations.

I’ve created this challenge all “For the Love of Twilight”, and for all you other geocaching Twilighters who I knew would be just as excited as I was to visit our local movie filming locations. After seeing the movie first, I read the books. I felt closer to the movie because it had been filmed in my own backyard. I got even more excited when I bought the “Twilight Director’s Notebook” by Catherine Hardwicke, which I now refer to as my “bible”. I couldn’t have done this without it. I hope this entices all you non-Twilighters to give the movie a try. It’s a different experience once you’ve been there.

I want to thank my best geocaching buddy Flowerbug for helping me with these caches by supporting me and being a great sounding board for all my ideas. It was a blast. I also want to thank Stardust and Mamajo for being my double checkers. Last but not least, I want to thank my Mom, who after our first viewing of Twilight made the statement, “that Edward is such a doll”, without which I wouldn’t have given Twilight a second thought. Hope you all enjoy the ride. Travelsister.

Adrenaline Rush – Twilight Movie Tour Challenge

1. The Marina

N 45 41.960 W 122 45.640

Located in Vancouver, WA, this is the marina where Waylon is killed by the nomad vamps Laurent, James, and Victoria. Do not enter the Marina area. It is private property. The clue can be gathered without leaving terra firma. There is public parking on the east side of the road directly across from the coordinates. Please respect the residents who live here.

When standing at the coordinates, face the river. What two digit number _ _ is posted on the end slip? Subtract 7 from this number. This will = A. (_ _ - 7 = A) (Checksum for this numbers digits added together is 9.)

2. Forks High School

N 46 00.463 W 122 50.375

Located in Kalama, WA, this is where Edward rescues Bella in the parking lot of their school. There were also a whole slew of other scenes filmed here (Gym, Hospital, Picnic Tables, Walking into the Woods, and many others). At N 46 00.481 W 122 50.385 (entrance to parking lot) there is a box of flyers available that map out all the locations on campus. After 3pm you are welcome to take self-guided tours of the campus, But if you Arrive Before 3pm, you are asked to check in at the main office located at the front entrance. It is possible to gather the clue without getting out of your vehicle, but if you can’t resist the urge to take a look around, there is some visitor parking in the lot and street parking is available in the neighborhood. They are used to Twilighters visiting here and they even have some souvenirs available. I want to thank M. “Wilson” for taking time out to talk and give me these pointers.

At these coordinates, there are five numbers _ _ _ ( _ _ ). The last two will = B. (Checksum for the five digits added together is 13.)

3. The Bloated Toad

N 45 51.678 W 122 47.827

Located in St. Helens, OR, this is the restaurant that Edward takes Bella to after he rescues her from the gang in the parking lot. Do not go inside. It is not open to the public. Stay on the sidewalk.

At these coordinates, you will find a sign with four words on it. Looking at the reverse side, you will find four numbers _ _ _ ( _ ). The last number will = C. (Checksum for the four digits added together is 7.) Count the number of letters in the Third word. This will = C. (Checksum for the total number of letters on the sign is 27.)

4. Petite Jolie

N 45 51.782 W 122 47.895

N 45 51.787 W 122 47.856

This is the dress shop where Bella sits with her friends Angela and Jessica while they try on prom dresses. This shop was in the middle of changing hands when I visited, so make sure you aren’t intruding if you go inside. The second set of coordinates will take you across the street to a park that was in the background of the scene. If you walk south down the block, the shop that provided props for this scene is on the corner.

At the first set of coordinates, at eye level, you will find three etched numbers _ _ ( _ ). The last number will = D. (Checksum for the three digits added together is 8.)

At the second set of coordinates, you will need to do some counting. Count all the stepping-stones. THEN DIVIDE BY TWO. This value will = E. (Example: If # of stones is 36. 36/2=18. E=18.) (Checksum for the digits in the total number of stepping-stones added together is 9.)

5. Alley & Parking Lot

N 45 51.787 W 122 47.917

This is the alley & parking lot where Bella runs into a gang and Edwards comes to the rescue in his car.

Standing at these coordinates, face the tall building. How many WHOLE diamonds do you see? How many letters are in the Family name of this establishment. Then Subract 3. This will = F. (# of letters - 3 = F)

6. The Thunderbird & The Whale

N 45 51.762 W 122 47.920

This was the bookstore where Bella buys a research book on vampire legends. It IS NOT OPEN to the public. DO NOT GO INSIDE or ONTO THE PORCH. Stay on the sidewalk. Please be respectful of the owner’s privacy.

At the coordinates, facing West/up the sidewalk, look at the SIDE of the stairs. How many CEMENT steps can you count? (Don’t over think this one. It’s not a trick question.) This will = G. (Checksum for the digits of Both F and G added together is 7.)

7. The Swan House

N 45 51.804 W 122 48.242

This is Charlie’s house where Bella comes to live when she moves to Forks. DO NOT DRIVE, as there is NO TURN AROUND. It is best to park near the other locations (free old town parking) and walk. It’s only three or four blocks. Approach this one from the north. Stay on the street. DO NOT ENTER the YARD OR HOUSE. Bella does NOT live here:-) This is a PRIVATE RESIDENCE, so please respect the owner’s privacy. The clue can be gathered without leaving the pavement.

At these coordinates, face West, away from the house. There are three vertical numbers ( _ _ ) _. The first two numbers will = H. (Checksum for the three digits added together is 14.)

8. Final ?

N 45 ®¢.@#$ W 122 %^.&£©

Now, to solve for the final location you will have to do a little math. It should be simple math for almost everybody. You will be using all the clues that were gathered and converted to letters. Now put these values into the equations provided to solve for the symbols. I’ve chosen these symbols to represent numbers in the final coordinates.

You’ll have to go back to your car and drive a short distance UP to the final coordinates on a narrow one lane road. Before reaching these coordinates you will have to park (plenty of parking) and walk the rest of the way on a gravel path. It’s about an eighth of a mile or so. A small animal trail will lead you the last little bit to the final.

Also, don’t forget to gather the clues from inside the lid to help lead you to the bonus cache.

A=

B=

C=

D=

E=

F=

G=

H=

(Checksum for values of A+B+C+D+E+F+G+H added together is 187.)

N 45 ®¢.@#$ W 122 %^.&£©

N 45 _ _._ _ _ W 122 _ _._ _ _

Remember to do the math within the parentheses first (it makes things easier). Then work the problem left to right from there. Please show your work (just kidding). (Checksum for all the digits in the final coordinates added together is 52.)

E - (H + G)= ®¢

E - A - B - F = @

A - (H + F) = #$

(H - G) - (C + D) = %

B - (F + D) = ^

(A - D) - (B + C + D + F + G + H) = &

A + (D + F) = £©
