Geocache Description:

The CACHE is NOT AT THE ABOVE listed COORDINATES.

This Multi-Cache Begins at the First Waypoint listed Below.

This is one of four multi-caches in my Twilight Movie Tour Challenge. The caches are Spidermonkey GC1ZX2J, Adrenaline Rush GC1ZX1W, La Push GC1ZX26, & Berry Cobbler GC1ZX2V. After finding these you can use the clues you gather from inside each to solve for the Bonus cache, The Lion & the Lamb GC1ZX3G.

This challenge was designed to take you to just about all of the Pacific Northwest filming locations used in the hugely popular 2008 movie, Twilight. This is one in a series of four multi-caches that will lead you to a fifth and final bonus cache. I have dubbed it a challenge because of the distances that must be traveled and the time involved in getting there. At each waypoint, clues are to be gathered in order to solve for the final cache location. Once you have found all four multi-caches and gathered the clues secreted within each, you will have all the information needed to solve for the bonus cache location.

Suggestions: 1) Bring along a calculator, as the math can get tedious after a long day caching. I’ve provided “checksums”, because I don’t want anyone to gather the wrong clues and then not be able to find the cache in the end. 2) You will be racking up many miles, so highway maps of Oregon and Washington may come in handy. Although waypoints are listed in logical order, you may not be familiar enough with the highways to find the shortest route between them without a map. 3) The waypoints for each cache should be done in order, because it does end up cutting down on driving and puts you in good position when searching for the final cache locations.

I’ve created this challenge all “For the Love of Twilight”, and for all you other geocaching Twilighters who I knew would be just as excited as I was to visit our local movie filming locations. After seeing the movie first, I read the books. I felt closer to the movie because it had been filmed in my own backyard. I got even more excited when I bought the “Twilight Director’s Notebook” by Catherine Hardwicke, which I now refer to as my “bible”. I couldn’t have done this without it. I hope this entices all you non-Twilighters to give the movie a try. It’s a different experience once you’ve been there.

I want to thank my best geocaching buddy Flowerbug for helping me with these caches by supporting me and being a great sounding board for all my ideas. It was a blast. I also want to thank Stardust and Mamajo for being my double checkers. Last but not least, I want to thank my Mom, who after our first viewing of Twilight made the statement, “that Edward is such a doll”, without which I wouldn’t have given Twilight a second thought. Hope you all enjoy the ride. Travelsister.

Spidermonkey – Twilight Movie Tour Challenge

1. The Meadow “Discovery”

N 45 30.020 W 122 18.516

N 45 28.988 W 122 18.048

Located in Oxbow County Park, this is where Bella tells Edward she knows what he is, asks him his age, and declares him a vampire. There is a $5 entrance fee; but the clues were gathered from the road going to the main entrance and the free parking area at the equestrian entrance, so you don’t need to enter the park if you don’t want to pay. Just shoot a U around the guard shack.

At the first set of coordinates, you will find four numbers _ _ _ (_). The last number will = A. At the second set of coordinates, you will find five numbers (_ _) _ _ _. The first two numbers will = B. (Checksum for all nine digits added together is 22.)

2. The Prom

N 45 31.962 W 122 14.947

N 45 31.980 W 122 14.933

**NOTE 8/2012 - As there have been major changes at this site (fire). I will be providing the answers for this location until I can re-visit the location and make changes to the clues. C=24, D=3.

Located just off the Historic Columbia River Highway, this was the spectacular location for the Prom with its grand view of the river in the background. This is Private Property. Permission has been obtained from the owners. DAYLIGHT HOURS ONLY. Please be respectful of the property and their guests. (And do not hunt this cache during private outdoor parties!) Parking is in a graveled lot at the rear/right of the building. I want to thank Geoff and Angelo for being so accommodating to all us Twilighters and for letting me include this location in my challenge. Be sure and check out the few souvenirs that are available.

At the first set of coordinates, how many lights can you count on the underside? This will = C.

At the second set of coordinates, how many names do you see at the very end? This will = D. (Checksum for the digits of both clues added together is 9.)

3. The Waterfall

N 45 34.606 W 122 06.983

** NOTE 7/2014 - The bridge to the Waterfall was repaired and re-opened back in May. So, I'm removing the answers posted below. Enjoy. It's worth the effort.

**NOTE 5/2014 - As a rock fell earlier in the season and damaged the bridge, and it could be a while before the bridge is repaired, I will be providing the answers for this location until the location is re-opened.

Also located on the Historic Columbia River Highway, this wasn’t an actual location in the movie, but it was the waterfall that dominated the background in both the vampire baseball and river’s edge scene and is probably the biggest tourist draw in the Gorge. You will have to walk to the bridge (yes, that bridge) to get the next clue. Also, included as a bonus, you will have the Best (and Only) view of the Baseball Field & River’s Edge. Binoculars or a super zoom camera lens might be helpful. If you’re lucky you might catch a glimpse of, what I call, “Emmett’s Tree”. For the view, go to N 45 34.609 W 122 06.981, the second switchback above the bridge, and look toward the river. Just to the left of the island, you can see the large clearing which was the Baseball Field, and to the left of that you can see a wing dam (log pilings in the water) running west (down stream) coming from the rocky shore of the River’s Edge.

At the main set of coordinates, you will find a date. Convert the month and day to numbers. The month will = E. The day will = F. And the last two numbers of the year _ _( _ _ ) will = G. (Checksum for all the digits in the entire date added together is 20.)

4. The Bridge

N 45 39.715 W 121 53.908

Located in Cascade Locks, OR, this location was in a quick shot at the beginning of the movie, where Charlie’s cruiser is seen crossing a high bridge, taking Bella to Forks. You have a great photo op here, and (at the right time of year) can buy some fresh fish from the locals. If you’re ready for a snack, there’s a great ice cream shop a couple blocks down the street.

At these coordinates, you are looking for seven numbers ( _ _ ) _ and _ _ _ _. The first two numbers will = H. (Checksum for the seven digits added together is 28.)

5. The Baseball Field & The River’s Edge

N 45 35.739 W 122 07.920

**NOTE 4/2021 - The sign with the numbers appears to have gone missing, so the this is what it said: "28851 SR 14".

Located in Prindle, WA, this is as close as you are able to get to what is collectively referred to as the Shire (without trespassing or paying for a private guided tour). The Shire is where the Vampire Baseball game was filmed, and in the same vicinity, the River’s Edge scene. Multnomah Falls is clearly visible across the river in the background of both of these scenes. The coordinates put you across the road from the entrance/driveway but there are locked gates and many no trespassing signs. DO NOT go in. The information you need is in this parking/driveway area.

At these coordinates, there are **seven numbers all together ( _ _ ) _ ( _ _ ) ( _ _ ). The first two numbers will = I. The fourth and fifth number will = J. And the last two numbers will = K. (Checksum for the seven digits added together is 29.)

6. The Tree Tops

N 45 34.862 W 122 11.792

Located in Washougal, WA, this is where Edward helps Bella climb and they hang out in a tall tree with a breathtaking view of the Gorge behind them as the camera sweeps around them. This is a lesser known/unpublished viewpoint. The coordinates will take you to the spot where Edward and Bella’s tree was located during filming. There is plenty of parking in a nearby grassy area at N 45 34.872 W 122 11.835. I’m not sure what the conditions will be like in the winter, but if it gets too muddy you may have to park on the dirt road or even walk down from the paved road (about a quarter mile). For now, I was able to get my car in with no trouble.

**NOTE 5/2011: The New Parking coordinates are N 45 35.125 W 122 11.870. The dirt road is now blocked by a gate so you will park on the pavement and walk in 0.29 mile to the original parking coordinates. It's an easy, flat walk.

When standing at the main coordinates, facing up river (East), look to your immediate left. How many trees can you count on the edge of the cliff/hill before it drops down to the next level? Don’t over think this one. It’s not a trick question. The number of trees will = L.

7. Final ?

N 45 ®¢.@#$ W 122 %^.&£©

Now, to solve for the final location you will have to do a little math. It should be simple math for almost everybody. You will be using all the clues that were gathered and converted to letters. Now put these values into the equations provided to solve for the symbols. I’ve chosen these symbols to represent numbers in the final coordinates.

It is a short walk of about 1/8 mile on a trail to the cache. Also, don’t forget to gather the clues from inside the lid to help lead you to the bonus cache.

A=

B=

C=

D=

E=

F=

G=

H=

I=

J=

K=

L=

(Checksum for the values of A+B+C+D+E+F+G+H+I+J+K+L added together is 226.)

N 45 ®¢.@#$ W 122 %^.&£©

N 45 _ _._ _ _ W 122 _ _._ _ _

Remember to do the math within the parentheses first (it makes things easier). Then work the problem left to right from there. Multiply ( * ) last. Please show your work (just kidding).

(Checksum for all the digits in the final coordinates added together is 53.)

(I + D) - (C + L)= ®

K - E = ¢

(J - B) - (C - G) = @

K + A = #$

G - (D + A) = %^

L * (D - A) = &

I + H + G = £©
