Geocache Description:

The CACHE is NOT AT THE ABOVE listed COORDINATES.

The CACHE is NOT AT THE ABOVE listed COORDINATES. This Multi-Cache Begins at the First Waypoint listed Below. This is one of four multi-caches in my Twilight Movie Tour Challenge. The caches are Spidermonkey GC1ZX2J, Adrenaline Rush GC1ZX1W, La Push GC1ZX26, & Berry Cobbler GC1ZX2V. After finding these you can use the clues you gather from inside each to solve for the Bonus cache, The Lion & the Lamb GC1ZX3G.

This challenge was designed to take you to just about all of the Pacific Northwest filming locations used in the hugely popular 2008 movie, Twilight. This is one in a series of four multi-caches that will lead you to a fifth and final bonus cache. I have dubbed it a challenge because of the distances that must be traveled and the time involved in getting there. At each waypoint, clues are to be gathered in order to solve for the final cache location. Once you have found all four multi-caches and gathered the clues secreted within each, you will have all the information needed to solve for the bonus cache location.

Suggestions: 1) Bring along a calculator, as the math can get tedious after a long day caching. I’ve provided “checksums”, because I don’t want anyone to gather the wrong clues and then not be able to find the cache in the end. 2) You will be racking up many miles, so highway maps of Oregon and Washington may come in handy. Although waypoints are listed in logical order, you may not be familiar enough with the highways to find the shortest route between them without a map. 3) The waypoints for each cache should be done in order, because it does end up cutting down on driving and puts you in good position when searching for the final cache locations.

I’ve created this challenge all “For the Love of Twilight”, and for all you other geocaching Twilighters who I knew would be just as excited as I was to visit our local movie filming locations. After seeing the movie first, I read the books. I felt closer to the movie because it had been filmed in my own backyard. I got even more excited when I bought the “Twilight Director’s Notebook” by Catherine Hardwicke, the director, which I now refer to as my “bible”. I couldn’t have done this without it. I hope this entices all you non-Twilighters to give the movie a try. It’s a different experience once you’ve been there.

I want to thank my best geocaching buddy Flowerbug for helping me with these caches by supporting me and being a great sounding board for all my ideas. It was a blast. I also want to thank Stardust and Mamajo for being my double checkers. Last but not least, I want to thank my Mom, who after our first viewing of Twilight made the statement, “that Edward is such a doll”, without which I wouldn’t have given Twilight a second thought. Hope you all enjoy the ride. Travelsister.

Berry Cobbler – Twilight Movie Tour Challenge

1. Grisham Mill

N 45 21.193 W 122 36.763

Located in Oregon City, OR, this is where the bad vamps (Victoria, James, and Laurent) are first seen “playing with their food”, and making a snack out of a security guard. As an aside, Bonneville Dam, located in the Columbia River Gorge, is also given a small cameo in the same scene. The best parking to reach this location is at N 45 21.183 W 122 36.745 although there are other access points with street parking in the nearby neighborhood.

Standing at these coordinates you will find **four words. Count the number of letters in each. Add the values of the first, third, and fourth word together. This will = A. (Checksum for the digits of A added together is 7.) **4/2021 - It seems there a was a fire so the words are: "Blue Heron Paper Company".

2. Green House

N 45 19.533 W 122 34.070

Also located in Oregon City, this is where Edward & Bella’s biology class came for a field trip. There should be plenty of parking, but if not, you can park SW of here, near the tennis courts, and walk over. At these coordinates, look up. You will find a number. This will = B.

3. Meadow & Tree Tops

N 44 52.240 W 122 39.145

Located inside Silver Falls State Park, this is the area where stunt work for the deer chase, meadow, & tree tops scenes were filmed. This is one of the most popular/beautiful parks in the region. It has a $5 fee, but you can retrieve the clues without going into any of the fee areas. There’s enough parking for a few vehicles on the side of the road here.

At these coordinates, you will have to do a bit of counting. Only count the "whole" WOODEN Slats in the railing, not the little "quarters". How many can you count on the south/southeast side (upstream). This will = C. How many can you count on the north/northwest side (downstream). This will = D.

Now for some extra math. The difference between D and C will = E(D-C=E). The sum of the D and C will = F (D+C=F). (Checksum for the digits of the total number of slats (i.e. F) is 7.)

4. The Diner

N 45 23.655 W 122 29.624

N 45 23.659 W 122 29.641

Located in Carver, OR, this is where Bella and Charlie eat dinner every night. This is also where we first see Waylon, Cora “the waitress”, played by local actress Ayanna Berkshire, and also get a glimpse of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer in a cameo appearance, at the counter.

This is Private Property. Permission has been obtained from the owners. DAYLIGHT HOURS ONLY. Please be respectful of the property and their guests. They are open to the public until 2pm and 3pm on the weekends if you want to take a peak inside or grab a bite to eat (breakfast all day). I want to thank Kris and Sarah for being so accommodating to all us Twilighter/geocachers, and for letting me include this location in my challenge. Be sure and check out the few souvenirs that are available.

At the first set of coordinates, how many **boulders do you count here. This will = G. At the second set of coordinates, look up, count the awning scallops. This will = H. (Checksum for the digits of both G and H is 8.) **4/2021 - It seems the boulders have been moved. There are six boulders.

5. Final ?

N 45 ®¢.@#$ W 122 %^.&£©

Now, to solve for the final location you will have to do a little math. It should be simple math for almost everybody. You will be using all the clues that were gathered and converted to letters. Now put these values into the equations provided to solve for the symbols. I’ve chosen these symbols to represent numbers in the final coordinates.

This cache is located on private property, but don’t worry, permission has been given. Also, don’t forget to gather the clues from inside the lid to help lead you to the bonus cache.

A=

B=

C=

D=

E=

F=

G=

H=

(Checksum for values of A+B+C+D+E+F+G+H added together is 311.)

N 45 ®¢.@#$ W 122 %^.&£©

N 45 _ _._ _ _ W 122 _ _._ _ _

Remember to do the math within the parenthesis first (it makes things easier). Then work the problem left to right from there. Multiply ( * ) last. Please show your work (just kidding). (Checksum for all the digits in the final coordinates added together is 65.)

(D – C) + (E) = ®

G – B – E = ¢

C * (A – G) + (G + E) = @#$

(F – D) – (H + A + E) = %^

H – A + B = & (A * B) + (G – E) = £©
