Huntingtons Sygdom #1
Huntingtons Sygdom er en dominant arvelig neurologisk lidelse, der bryder ud i voksenalderen, såfremt man har genet for sygdommen.
Sygdommen er heldigvis relativt sjælden. Det betyder til gengæld, at ikke mange kender til den. Det vil Landsforeningen Huntingtons Sygdom gerne forsøge at lave om på, og denne cache er én af de veje, vi har valgt at gå.
I cachen vil du finde informationsmateriale om sygdommen. Det kan være vores pjecer, sidste nr. af vores blad, vores informationsfolder eller andet. Vi håber, du vil tage et eksemplar med – læse det og gerne fortælle andre om det.
Ca. 400 personer i Danmark er direkte ramt af Huntingtons Sygdom. Deres familier er i høj grad også påvirket af at have sygdommen så tæt på, og børn af forældre med Huntingtons Sygdom er i direkte risiko for at have arvet sygdommen.
Der er ingen kur mod sygdommen, men man kan med medicin lindre symptomerne til en vis grad i et vist tidsrum.
Landsforeningen Huntingtons Sygdom (www.lhc.dk) arbejder for at bedre forholdene for de berørte familier. En af vores store udfordringer er at udbrede kendskabet til sygdommen. Vi håber, at Danmarks (måske på sigt hele verdens) geo-cachere vil hjælpe os?

Huntingtons Disease is a hereditary neurologic disease that has its debut when you are an adult, if you have the gene for it.
The disease is rather rare which also means that not a lot of people know about it. The Danish Huntingtons Association would like to change that, and making this cache is one of the ways we try to do it.
In the cache you will find brochures from the Danish Huntington Association. Feel free to take a brochure (which will be in Danish) and spread the word about the disease.
Approx. 400 people in Denmark have the disease and their families are very affected by it too. A child with a parent who has Huntingtons Disease has a 50% risk of getting the disease.
At the moment there is no cure for this disease. Medicine to make the symptoms easier to live with does exist, but it only works for a certain period of time.
The Danish Huntington Association is working in Denmark to make the lives of the families affected by this disease easier. One of our greatest challenges is to increase awareness of the disease in the public. We hope that the geo-cachers of Denmark (and the rest of the world) will help us do this.
