Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden in the middle of a beautiful indigenous forest area on one of the approach trails from Kalk Bay area up into the east Silvermine mountains. It may therefore be easily combined with some of the numerous great caches in this area.

Spes Bona (Latin) = Good Hope

Park in the small lay-by on Boyes Drive at S 34 07.501 E 18 26.866. Walk a few metres south to the trail-head steps by the Echo Valley SignPost.

Follow the trail along the contour then upwards alongside the seasonal stream to the trail junction with a stone sign plaque at Weary Willy’s S 34 07.293 E 18 26.770.

Turn right here heading north to the next junction with another stone sign plaque at S 34 07.248 E 18 26.807.

Continue straight ahead here following the twisting trail marked Amphitheatre via Spes Bona Forest up to the next junction marked by a cairn at S 34 07.133 E 18 26.804.

Here take the left fork trail towards Spes Bona Forest which heads north-west ascending gradually up the Spes Bona Valley between the steep sides of Ridge Peak (502m) on the south side and the high cliffs of Kalk Bay Peak (516m) on the north side.

Further up the valley the trail becomes a boardwalk as it enters a delightful forest area along the sides of a seasonal stream.

In the middle of the forest, the trail passes a wooden seat on the north side and then approx 5 minutes later takes a long right-hand bend around a huge boulder.

The cache, a small cylindrical camo-container stuffed with geo-swag, is hidden a few metres off the boardwalk in a niche in the big boulder under some leaves - no trampling of any plants is necessary in this area.

Note: due to some tree interference with satellite reception, coordinates accuracy here was approx 7m.
