Container near the entrance of the Chehalis Western Trail.
This former railroad right-of-way was purchased from the Weyerhaeuser Foundation by the Washinton State Department of Natural Resources in 1988.
Over the years, a billion board feet of timber passed along these tracks. The logs were carried north to Henderson Inlet where they were transferred to the water and towed to the Weyerhaeuser mills in Everett.
This 5.3 mile trail was developed to support a variety of recreational uses. The parking facilities at the north end serve both this trail and a primitive hiker-only trail into Woodard Bay Natural Resources Conservation Area.
