Geocache Description:

SOMEONE HAS TAKEN THE STATE HISTORICAL MARKER, BUT I DECIDEDE TO PLACE ON HERE ANYWAY

Great place for a SHM only problem is it is gone the post still remain so I will use it. Fort Mcdermitt, was established in 1865, Originally called Quinn River Camp #33 on the East fork, The fort consisted of several Adobe, Stone and Frame buildings surrounding a square. Its purpose was to protect the Virginia City-Quinn River Valley-Oregon Road. Twenty four years of operation made it the longest active army fort in Nevada. Its troops praticapated in the Modoc War and the Bannock and Shosone Indian troubles, It was the last of the Nevada army posts in service, unitl 1889. And now even the sign has been stolen what a place. "God Bless America"
