This is one cache in a series of
caches along the Lehigh Valley Trail (North Branch). Each cache
contains information which can be used to find the final cache. You
do not need to find them in any specific order or all at once.
The Finale Cache has been archived (9/2/11) due to
construction/landscaping near the canal. The cache is a water
bottle hidden along part of the trail. Supposedly the trail goes
down the rail road tracks, but there are No Trespassing signs and
it appears that the track has not been converted to a trail yet
(through the rails to trail program.) There is access to the trail
at N43° 2.436 W77° 38.167, the trail is under the bridge and there
are some side trails to get down there. There is also a parking
area at N 43° 01.572 W 077° 37.829.
The Northern branch of the
trail begins along the Canal Path, near the University of
Rochester. It continues past RIT and then meets up with the Lehigh
Valley Linear Park. It connects to other scenic trails throughout
Western New York, including the Erie Canal Towpath in Brighton, the
Lehigh Valley Railroad’s Black Diamond Trail in Mendon and
Rush, and the Genesee Valley Greenway west of the Genesee River. In
the future, the trail will connect, uninterrupted, with trails that
lead to Albany, Buffalo, and the Southern Tier. This is one of my
favorite trails around here, it is pretty much a straight shot from
RIT to downtown Rochester, via the Lehigh and then through the
Genesee Valley Park. I love riding my bike along this trail and
that’s why I came out with this series of caches. Portions of
the trail are on sidewalks and along roads, so keep an eye out for
cars. Most of these caches are not meant to be too hard, so
don’t over think them. When you find each cache, make sure
you notice the clue for the final cache. The trail is open dawn to
dusk, so no night caching! Good luck and have fun!
