A small park and grab cache located along the Cavanaugh Bay Road.
Early visitors to Priest Lake included miners, trappers and a few hardy homesteaders. In the late 1800’s it was an all day affair to make the rugged, 30 mile stage coach journey from the train station in Priest River to the south end of Priest Lake. One of the homesteaders, Andy Coolin, is credited as the founder of Coolin. Coolin was platted in 1907.
The Great Northern Railroad built a two story log hotel in Coolin in 1890. At that time there were no roads around the lake. Once a visitor arrived in Coolin they could follow old trails on foot, rent a row boat or board at steamboat for travel up the lake. The Leonard Paul store opened in 1906. By 1910, Coolin had two stores, two hotels, a marina, a saloon and a school. The Leonard Paul store is still in business today.
The cache is a pill bottle. We decided upon the name for the cache after sharing a piece of coconut cake with some friends.
The cache contains a log sheet and pencil. There is a little room for small trade items. A dollar was placed in the cache for the first to find.
