Furnace Brook is a tributary of the South River in Marshfield
MA. It rises in some bogs west of Carolina Hill, and winds
its way south along Route 3A, joining the South River at Marshfield
Center.
The land along the brook north of School Street is conservation
land with trails maintained by the local Boy Scout troop.
The scouts keep the trails cleared, and have built benches along
the path. The forest is mostly pine and hardwoods, changing
to wetland bushes near the brook. |

Parking is scarce, at the trailhead on School Street.
After the first few hundred feet, the trail comes to a power
line crossing. You can see a trail continuing across the
swath, but that's not the way; it leads to a private backyard and
horse paddock. Instead, turn east on the power lines for 200
ft, then you will see the correct trail re-entering the woods to
the north.
