Hats off to the "One Mile Beach Dune Care Group"
Back in 2001 the One Mile Beach Dune Care Group, in conjunction with Great Lakes Council, identified a need to clear a section of reserve at the rear of the golf course at Forster.
At that time, the area was densely overgrown and almost impenetrable. The Group commenced work with the removal of lantana and several weed species and soon discovered
the area contained a very healthy littoral rain-forest with a diverse number of species. A walkway was established, leading people through a stand of fig trees and cabbage palms.
Work has been ongoing. The Group established the idea of constructing a boardwalk, with access available to everyone, to replace the existing track.
This central location already provides car parking and toilet facilities and, with the diverse nature of the rain-forest, lends itself to being developed as an interpretative walk.
