Waiting For Abel Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wizard of Ooze: As the cache owner has not indicated that they have visited the cache location to replace it if missing, perform needed maintenance, or verify that it is still there within the requested time period, I am regretfully archiving the cache to clear it from the active cache database and open the area to new caching opportunities.

If the cache owner would like to replace a cache at this location, please submit a new geocache listing and it will be reviewed under the current geocaching.com guidelines. Please don’t post a note on your archived listing as it won’t be forwarded to me and I won’t see it. If you need to contact me, please do so by emailing me through the contact link on my geocaching.com profile page or through my website www.wizardofooze.com

Thank you for your contributions to geocaching, and we hope to see you actively geocaching once again in the near future.

Geocache Description:

This is a two-stage cache. The terrain to the first stage is quite easy. The 2.5 rating is for the second stage. You may need a writing instrument and a piece of paper to record numbers and do some simple arithmetic for the coordinates of the final stage.

WAYPOINT 1: N: 48° 59.645'; W: 122° 44.935'

At waypoint 1, you are looking for a small round object, about 3.5 inches in diameter, on ground and encased in concrete. You will record only the numbers that you find in the center of the object, which comprise one digit on the top portion and four digits on the lower portion. These portions are separated by a straight line. Disregard all numbers in the peripheral region.

Assign letter A to the single digit on the top of the center, and W,X,Y,and Z to the remaining four digits in the center. The calculation involves only the last three digits of the coordinates; i.e. the minute decimals. The degrees and whole minutes remain the same in both stages.

This is your calculation for the second waypoint:
For North coordinate: add WXYZ together, triple the result, and add the product to the North coordinate of waypoint 1.
For West coordinate: double A and subtract the result from the West coordinate of Waypoint 1.

In terms of math, coordinates for Waypoint 2, in minute decimals, are:
North: 645 + [3*(W+X+Y+Z)]
West: 935 - (2*A)

WAYPOINT 2:
N: 48° 59.{645 + [3*(W+X+Y+Z)]};
W: 122° 44.[935 - (2*A)]

The location of the final cache is about midway between the sidewalk and the creek. The cache is a small lock-and-lock container covered in camouflage fabrics (use of flash light recommended). The terrain is steep, so please be careful.
