HORSESHOES Traditional Cache
namaste98: I guess it’s time to archive “Horseshoes”. I’ve had to replace the container three times recently. I put a new style container in a few days ago and now it is gone. I can’t afford the time and cost to maintain the cache. Thanks to our 66 fellow cachers that logged finds. I plan to place a new cache somewhere in the area soon.
Happy caching!
Namaste

HORSESHOES
Congratulations to "GROFFSTER" for First to Find!
The game of horseshoes is thought to have descended from the ancient Greek sport of the discus throw. The story is that Greeks developed a sport where the discus was thrown at a stake. But many of the poorer people could not afford the discus so they used cast off horseshoes instead.
Horseshoes in the United States was probably brought over by the early English settlers. But modern horseshoes might well be called "muleshoes" because it was spread by Union soldiers during the American Civil War playing the game with the discarded shoes of mules.
The NHPA, the recognized governing body of the sport of horseshoe pitching, maintain an up-to-date set of rules, guidelines and specifications for the game. The first world championship of horseshoe pitching took place in 1910 in Bronson, Kansas.
In horseshoes, there are two ways to score: by throwing "ringers," or by throwing the horseshoe nearest to the opposite stake. This scoring system gives rise to the popular expression "Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.”
So you are probably asking what does this have to do with this cache. The answer is absolutely nothing since close doesn’t count in geocaching. But, you are going to visit an official NHPA horseshoes pits facility and with a little luck you may go there when an event is taking place.
THE CACHE…..
The cache is a nano park and grab (BYOP). You may have a slight delay before the grab. Please do not disturb the horseshoe pits. The cache is not there.
Stealth required! There are plenty of muggles in the area pitching horseshoes, playing tennis, playing ball, enjoying the playground, walking dogs, walking, jogging, reading and attending events at the main facilities. Please be patient and courteous.
Note: Satellite images of this area are old. Area has been changed, a building was added and surrounding area rearranged.
Enjoy the area and the hunt. Namaste!
