What is a "Flash Mob" Event?
A "Flash Mob" is a gathering of geocachers, only 15 minutes in
length! No more, no less. Cachers arrive at a predetermined
location at exactly a predetermined time and perform an activity
then disperse after exactly 15 minutes.
What is a "World Wide Flash Mob" (WWFM)
event?
A "World Wide Flash Mob" event is when hundreds of flash mob
events happen all around the world at precisely the same time. For
example: an event will be happening in London, England at 6:00 PM (
London Time ) and an event will be happening at the same moment in
San Francisco, Calif. at 10:00 AM PST.
What to bring:
Anything and everything geocaching. Bring your GPS, a pen or
pencil, your swag, travel bugs, travel/geo-dogs, bison tubes, pen
lights, personalized STUFF, and whatever else. Also, if anyone has
a sign or banner, or would like to make one, this would be great
for the picture!
Itinerary:
- 12:45 PM - 12:59 PM - Participants wait patiently and/or stroll
around the area. STAY AWAY from ground zero until exactly 1pm. Best
as you can, act like a muggle, pretend not to know each other or
give any indication that something is about to happen. Keep all
things geocaching, especially your GPS, our of sight at this point.
At 12:59 PM slowly begin to move towards ground zero.
- 1:00 PM – The fun begins! You will hear two short blasts from a
geocaching whistle which will signal the start of the event. An
ammo can will be placed and everyone will converge right at ground
zero, revealing all of their geocaching-garb. Log slips will be
handed out - Bring your own pen or pencil. Sign individual log slip
and drop it in the ammo can/collection box. Next - turn to someone
close by and “swag swap” or trade “trackables” if you so chose.
There will also be a bucket to drop trackables.
- 1:08 PM – The FTF name drawing will be held.
- 1:12 PM - Group picture takes place. Listen carefully and
follow all directions given by photographer quickly as to where to
line up.
- 1:14 PM - One minute warning is called "It is now 1:14!"
Prepare to leave. Organizers seal up log container for
transport.
- 1:15 PM EXACTLY – Everyone disperse immediately, as if nothing
ever happened! Meet ELSEWHERE if desired.
This event will be held regardless of conditions so please come
prepared for the elements. Brrrrrrrr...the lake is cold in
November!
