Geocache Description:

flat land, wheelchair friendly when the sand has been cleared away.

A jetty is a structure extending into a body of water, which protects a harbor or coastline from the effects of currents and tides. Coastal lagoons fronted by barrier spits typically have entrances that migrate over time. Here, the entrance has been fixed by a variety of jetty structures used in river, dock, and maritime works which are generally carried out in pairs from river banks, or in continuation of river channels at their outlets into deep water; or out into docks, and outside their entrances; or for forming basins along the sea-coast for ports in tideless seas. The forms and construction of these jetties are as varied as their uses; for though they invariably extend out into water, and serve either for directing a current or for accommodating vessels, they are sometimes formed of high open timber-work, sometimes of low solid projections, and occasionally only differ from breakwaters in their object. The term derived from the French word jetée, "thrown", and signifies something thrown out. Jetties at the coast that have been raised and extended, help prevent long shore drift, so therefore prevent coastal erosion. (Wikipeda.com) How did the Jetty Build the Beach? Wind-driven waves naturally move sand up and down the coast. The jetties trap sand by interrupting this flow. This causes the beach to get bigger every year. The questions I want you to email me are…
1) Notice the shoreline markers (also on the sign)- What are the three years marked on your way to the coords?
2) What is the intended purpose of the South Beach jetty?
3) How is the jetty like candy?
4) How is the beach like a dog?
(Answers are on posted signs)
You must take a photo of yourself with the jetty in the background and post it to your log (if no camera- count how many planks it takes for you to get to the posted cords, once you are on the boardwalk)

Congratulations to The XC Cachers for being the first cachers to visit South of the Jetty!!
