Geocache Description:

News Flash!!! 9th drowning. A teanage boy was fishing of the rocks with his brother at Salmon Holes on Saturday April 2nd 2011 when he lost his footing and fell into the water. Police recovered his body the next day. This is the 3rd drowning since we listed this cache.

The cache is designed to blend into the surrounds yet should be quite easy to locate. You will not need to deviate from any path and please avoid damaging the flora.

The Salmon Holes is named after the salmon that seek shelter in the calmer waters close to the beach and is a popular location for rock and beach fishing. Salmon are one of the best light tackle sportsfish in Australia. They are the best fighting fish taken from the beach, where their strong runs and spectacular leaps more than compensate for the average eating quality. Other fish species caught at the salmon holes include: skippy, herring, whiting, silver bream and the odd, shark and sampson fish.

The waters here have strong currents and surges and like most locations on our Coast are prone to King Waves, so be extremely aware if you choose to climb or walk on the rocks.

We have had personal first hand experience of the reality of the dangerous seas at this spot. While fishing here we had the unpleasant task of having to call emergency services and spark an extensive search for a fisherman who was washed of rocks in 2002. Sadly a life was lost that day and another in September 2003 when a teenager drowned after being swept from rocks whilst fishing with family. Despite the risks you will still see fisherman on the rocks putting themselves in unnecessary danger in search of a good catch.

The cache is a small camo and contains log book, pencil, pencil sharpener and a couple of small swaps.
