Petite boite ronde et rouge. // This is an easy traditional cache, accessible from the municipal car park 43° 39.687'N 6° 59.279'E open from 8 to 8 (9 during the summer). Its a small, round and red box, lots of small things will fit in!
Situé à 300 m d’altitude, Opio est un village provençal perché, aux bastides restaurées, aux vieux puits centenaires, et conservé dans un écrin de verdure. Les 2000 habitants se répartissent au travers des plaines, des bois et des oliveraies.
L’histoire d’Opio remonte à l’antiquité. Opio est à l’origine un important camp fortifié, oppidum, d’où il a tiré son nom. Le Seigneur d’Opio vers l’an 1000 se retire comme moine à l’Abbaye de Lérins, à qui il lègue, à sa mort, une partie du fief d’Opio.
On trouve encore des noms comme « pré de l’évêque », l’ancien Château des Evêques, auquel est accolée la Mairie.
La production d’huile d’olives encore triturées au moulin du XVeme siecle que vous pouvez visiter, et la culture des roses et du jasmin, destinés aux parfumeurs de Grasse, étaient les principales activités du village.
Le « Saut » est un petit ruisseau, qui se jette dans la Brague, que vous pouvez croiser en remontant le chemin du même nom… une cascade lui a donné son nom.

Opio is a traditional Provencal village. Situated between Cannes, Nice, and Grasse. Set on the idyllic French Riviera between the mountains and the sea. At an altitude of nearly 1000 feet, you will some restored bastides and centenary wells.
The 2000 inhabitants of this village are surrounded by the varied greens of plains, woods, and olive groves. Opio was originally a large fortified camp, an oppidum, the root of its name.
The Lord of Opio around year 1000 left Opio to become a monk at the Abbey of Lérins, to which he bequeathed, upon his death, part of the fief of Opio.
Land named “pré l’evêque” are style existing , the old Château des Evêques, part of which is now used as Opio’s town hall.
Olive oil production, still transformed at the XV century “Moulin” and rose and jasmine cultivation for the Grasse perfumers were the principal village industries.
The “Saut” is a small river merges with the “Brague”, you can see it if you go further on the path with the same name…. a waterfall give the name to this small river.
