From the intersection of Hwy 64 & Hwy 276 in Pisgah Forest, drive north on Hwy 276 2.2 miles and turn right on FS 477. There will be a Pisgah Riding Stable sign just before this road. Drive 2.2 miles on FS 477 to a small pull-off on the left side of the road marked by the Avery Creek Trail sign. Parking coordinates N35 18.900 W082 44.957. Using this parking area will provide you a 1.5 mile hike (one way). At the junction of Avery Creek and Buckhorn Gap Trail go left and continue up Avery Creek Trail following the blue blaze.
Alternate parking is .25 miles further on FS477 on the right side of the road N 35 18.972 W 082 45.129 marked by Buckhorn Gap Trail sign. Parking here will be a slightly easier hike to the falls. At the 1st junction of Avery Creek and Buckhorn Gap Trail go left and continue on following the orange/ and blue blaze. You will come to a point where Buckhorn gap turns right across a foot- bridge and Avery creek continues on. Go left, follow the blue blaze and continue on Avery Creek Trail.
After you pass the large waterfall on the right, you will cross a low place in the trail with five small logs. Ahead, on the right side of the trail, you will see two large logs that are crossed. The cache is a green plastic ammo container pushed under a large log about 15 yards off the trail next to an Oak tree.
View the pictures for this cache to get an indication of what you may expect. The GPS coverage was poor, but the coordinates will point you in the right direction. Note: The coordinates are on the trail, close to the cache, but NOT at the cache site.

Note: on May 28, 2017, the cache container was graciously replaced by OddMushroom & Green Nikki with a green, plastic ammo can. It was in need of some TLC and they replaced the cache container when they visited it for Geo-Woodstock XV. Many thanks to them for their kind generosity.
