Abandoned railroad bed, mostly level, some prickers at ground zero. Also watch for possible poison ivy.
NOTE: There is no "West Shore 3 of 3" yet ... I'm hoping to inspire YOU to place that one! From "1 of 3" to this one, it is a relatively short walk. However, this trail goes on for many many miles, most of it public land. Get out there and hide something!!!!
This cache is placed along the old West Shore Railroad bed within the confines of Churchville Park. It is mostly flat, and you can follow the path to within about 15 feet of the cache. The cache is a cammo covered Peanut Butter Jar with some small trade items and a log book. This one is meant to be kid friendly, so the swag in there is mostly for them. Please trade fairly.
I tucked this one into the base of a bush with sticks and leaves for cover ... please re-hide it at least as good as I did, but preferably BETTER!
ElbaPatch does a much better job describing the life of the West Shore Railroad at his cache page (GCRXGK) "West Shore '84". I'll just defer to that, and what I cut and pasted from WikiPedia: "The West Shore Railroad was the final name of a railroad from Weehawken, New Jersey, across the Hudson River from New York City, north along the west shore of the river to Albany, New York and then west to Buffalo." This portion is about the furthest east in this area where the abandoned bed is public land.
If you keep going down this trail about another 0.3 miles or so, you will come to the spot where my first ever geocache find occured. The cache has been archived for a long time, but "My Cache Goes Where the Wild Goose Goes" (GC4BF8) was where it all started for me.
I have received permission from owners Paul and Roxanne to park on private property and access the railroad bed trail from there. Please respect the owner's property - park at the far end of the lot during breakfast and lunch hours.
