Fram till början av 1800-talet var döden den vanligaste bestraffningen för grövre brott. Oftast halshöggs brottslingen av en skarprättare. I Sverige avskaffades dödsstraffet 1921 (för brott begångna i fredstid) och 1973 (krigstid). (visit link)
Nära Kolbäck, en bit in i Munktorps socken, ligger den sk Galgbacken. Här avrättades ett antal personer under 1700-talet. Stensättningen högst upp i backen är troligen det underlag som stupstocken stod på och sankmarken i backens nordöstra sluttning är förmodligen den plats de avrättade grävdes ner.

Gallows Hill - the place where the death penalty was enforced during the 18th century, most often through decapitation. In Sweden the death penalty was forbidden in 1921 (for peacetime crimes) and 1973 (wartime). The stoney area at the top of the hill was probably where the punishment was given, and the swampy area by the north east slope is probably where the criminals were buried.
