Kristbergs kyrka Utmärkande
för kyrkan är dess ståtliga medeltida torn.
År 1721 revs de gamla stenvalven över långhuset
på grund av omfattande skador och hot om rasrisk. De ersattes
med paneltak som Anders Wikström från
Söderköping målade 1725 med bilder ur gamla
testamentet. Samma år byggdes kyrkan ut med ett nytt
korparti. 1829 skedde en utbyggnad åt söder. I
tillbyggnaden, som kallas lillkyrkan, finns bland annat ett
triumfkrucifix från 1300-talet. En annan medeltida skulptur
är S:t Olof som var kyrkans skyddshelgon. I kyrkans sakristia
finns det kalkmålningar där bland annat en bild av
kyrkofadern Erasmus martyrskap avbildas
The church of
Kristberg. Characteristic for the church is its magnificent
medieval tower. In 1721 the old stone arches of the nave were
demolished because of extensive damage and the threat of collapse.
They were replaced with a new ceiling by Anders Wikström from
Söderköping who painted it in 1725 with images from the
Old Testament. That same year the church was expanded with a new
chancel. In 1829 it was expanded to the south. In the building,
called ”the small church”, is a triumphal crucifix from
the 1300s. Another medieval sculpture is the St. Olaf, who was the
patron saint. In the sacristy of the church, there are murals which
include an image of the church father Erasmus'
martyrdom.
