Laie Pine Forest Scout Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Greatland Reviewer: Hello:

This cache page has been archived due to the lack of response to one or more prior Reviewer Note(s) about issue(s) with the cache and because the Cache Owner has not been online since June. If the owner would like to have the cache unarchived, please contact me through my profile as soon as possible before another cache gets placed nearby.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page requires it to go through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located a little more than half way to the Laie Falls along the Laie Trail. You should get permission to hike on the trail from Hawaii Reserves Inc.(phone: 293-9201). The trail climbs up the entire way to the cache and beyond to the falls, but the trail is well marked.

Take the Kamehameha Highway to Laie and turn on Naniloa Loop, and then onto Poohaili Street at a circle (not the circle in front of the Laie Temple). Park alongside the white concrete pillars at Laie Park and start your hike continuing down Poohaili heading mauka. The road will become dirt at a gate which you will need to go around and continue following for about 8 minutes until you find a posted map designating the trail head.

Your destination is the pine forest (Cook Island pines) a little more than halfway up to the falls. Just follow the pink ribbons marking the trail the entire way. The path is wide and can be very muddy after a rainfall. You can plan on an hour steady hike up, up, up the trail. The steepest part is the last effort before the forest. If you have come this far, why not go on to the falls, which is about another hour away.

The cache is in a square disposable Ziploc container inside a Ziplog bag. It was the first cache hidden by the boy scouts of Troop 382. It contains several regular items (mini rubber ducky, shell lei, etc.) for non-scouts and also some scout badges that they hope can be traded by fellow boy scouts.
