A replacement for my original 'Minor Monstrosity' cache.
Mount Monster is a little visited conservation park just south of Keith. At 95 hectares, it is a small reminder of what the area used to look like prior to European settlement. A trig point at 93 metres above sea level provides panoramic views of the surrounding areas, which are known as being one of the major Lucerne growing areas in the country.
The Gwen Ellis nature walk enables visitors to go on a stroll that takes you around the base of the granite tors. The walk should take no more than 20 minutes at a leisurely pace.
Floral species within the park include Golden and Sticky Wattle, Broombush, Rock Fern, Tall Sheoak, Guinea Flowers, Pink Gums, Dodder Laurel and Prickly Wattle. There are also some patches of Coral Lichen. Mt Monster is the only place in SA where this species lives.
Mount Monster conservation park is also home to the Echidna who loves dining on the local meat ants. There are also various species of reptiles and birds within the area. Maybe, if you are quiet enough, you may see some Echidna, going about their daily hunt for food.
The cache is located under a large rock. It is well hidden... so please keep it that way. This is a new cache in a new location, so any previous finders are welcome to find and log again. I hope you enjoy this marvellous little piece of natural scrub.
