Located near Pioneer Cabin (a Forest Service cabin) hign in the Pioneer Mountains just miles from the Ketchum/Sun Valley area. The views are spectacular and worth the hike alone.
Pioneer Cabin is maintained by the Forest Service for summer hikers and winter backcountry skiers. The cabin can be reached by many different trails including Long Gulch, Corral Creek and Johnson Creek. From the cabin hikers will see the The Pioneer Mountains, Boulder Mountains, Smokey Mountains, Hynman Peak and Bald Mountain home of Sun Valley skiing. The cabin is a giant geocache in itself with all kinds of stuff left behind... take what you need and leave for others! My cache is located within a few hundred yards of the cabin beneath and old tree stump. A rock carin piled on the uphill side of the tree hides the bright orange and white container. There is money in this cache; 1-US golden dollar, 100 Mexican Peso's, 1-Canadian dollar, also stashed.... sunglass holder, keychain, cigar cutter, stamps and a deck of cards. Even if you don't find this cache, you will be glad you made the hike. Don't forget your camera or you'll be sorry!
