Geocache Description:

One of a series of caches at mile intervals along the Ouse Valley Way

The River Great Ouse flows from its source near Brackley to the sea at King's Lynn, running through Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk. Work is in progress on the Ouse Valley Way to open a network of footpaths along this magnificent river from 'source to sea' - making this route one of the longest river valley walks in Britain. The first section of the Ouse Valley Way walk opened in 1990 in the district of Huntingdonshire, and the whole route was formally opened in May 2004.

Mile Marker # 89 is one of a series of caches being placed along this official Long Distance Footpath. The idea is to encourage more people to explore the walking equivalent of motorways, "speeding" the walker from start to finish (in this case from Syresham near Brackley to Kings Lynn). However, the entire walk can be broken down into day walks using public transport.

This series will eventually have 140 caches. It was started by, and is being managed by The Red Duke and if you would like to help by placing some caches in the series please contact The Red Duke via Geocaching.com so he can co-ordinate things.

The classic way to do this cache is as part of a walk along the whole Ouse Valley Way. If you are walking the whole route or even just a section of it please let us know in your log message.

This cache can also be done by parking in either the National Trust Car Park at Houghton Mill or in the village centre. The mill is open on summer weekends.

This is a very muggliferous area with a nearby caravan site, a tourist hot-spot and many local dog walkers. So some stealth may be needed.

This cache is a camouflaged small cylinder in a block of wood containing a logbook only and is NOT in the Caravan Site. Please replace exactly as found. In summer, tree cover makes the GPS readings somewhat erratic.
