Geocache Description:

Urban cache in Reading town centre near The
Blade.

They very old meets the very new at this cache.

On the one hand there is The Blade built this year, 2009. A bold design which is set to be an iconic feature of Reading's skyline. On the other there are the Abbey ruins which date back to 1121. See www.abbeyruins.com

The cache area is built from modern materials, but in the middle is a perfectly preserved flint archway over the Holybrook. This could have been the entrance to one of the watermills that kept the abbey going. Or indeed the place into which their sewage flowed!

The contrast is really appealing, note the blue bridge, graffiti on the archway, different patching up jobs over the years and the little circular targets. I believe these indicate how much the structure is moving over time.

Outside office hours would probably be the best time to bag this cache. Please be aware of the security cameras, there are several. Terrain is definitely 1, and wheelchair accessible.

Parking suggested at the Oracle or Queen's Road and if you are very lucky, a space outside Copa on King's Road.
