Geocache Description:

An easy cache to replace The (now archived) Regent, this is too good a view to be missed.

For those following the travels of Hill-man, he has left his southern homelands to come North. Refreshed from the Refilled Bottle Hill-man has arrived in Royal Ramsey having heard it is a pleasant town. Here he learned the history of the tower on the hill overlooking the town and decided a climb up to it was in order. On arrival at the tower he took in the wide views of the northern plain, the close-to town and the adjacent isle. Turning to the Tower he observed and photographed the plaque on the East wall, also a profusion of aerials and masts, some fairly close, some very close, some on top. The two further ones have been cunningly disguised as trees, and look just like large model railway accessories. The tower was built as a commemoration of the visit paid by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to Ramsey bay in 1847. On the 20th of September Prince Albert came ashore by small boat from the Royal Yacht and made his way from Ballure, via Lhergy Frissel, to the flat area where the monument now stands. Here he had the same wide view we now have, without the modern conifers. The Queen had more sense, and stayed aboard ship. The tower was commenced the following year, and stands as a memorial to Ramsey's near-miss. Hill-man has noted two ways to the tower, the hard way is to climb up the paths from the Hairpin corner, the easy way is to park at the Ballure Carpark, but take great care when crossing the road here as many motorists as well as bikers seem to think they are in the WreTTched Races. Hill-man does not recommend this route in TT Week or MGP Week, unless you're into bikes, yessir. If you start in Ramsey town you could always walk along the beach to Ballure, then follow Albert's route up through the glen, though this is not marked as such. Hill-man recomends boots in wet weather or winter, as both routes can be muddy in places. The 2 rating for terrain applies to the top route, the lower route is steep in places. Please hide the cache well, as this area is understandably often alive with muggles. The cache should be behind an old post at the end of the 5 foot high wall, ground level.
