Henry Harrison Gird's Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Sons of Ben: Looks like the new vineyard has claimed this area as theirs and along with it my geocache! Had a good run but it’s the end of the line for this guy. Thanks to all who found him.

Geocache Description:

Ever wonder how certain roads get their names? I always thought "Gird Road" was a peculiar name for a road.

This valley in Fallbrook was originally owned by Don Alvarado of Mexico. He intended to give the 4590 acres to his grand-daughter, Senora Serrano upon her marriage. Unfortunately Don and his grand-daughter died of small pox in 1863. Alvarado's son put the land up for sale and Henry Harrison Gird ( a rancher in LA) bought the land in 1876. In 1880, Henry and his wife Martha, left LA and moved to their new ranch. Many people said at the time, "All roads lead to Girds"... probably having nothing to do with Henry and Martha having a bevy of charming and beautiful daughters! Small cache. Sign log/BYOP. CONGRATS ro LanyardKot FTF, striking on one of his legendary pre-dawn patrols!
