Geocache Description:

The cache is located on the Caballo trail in Daley Ranch. Recently park rangers have been vigilant about removing Geocaches that do not fall under their guidelines. I have placed this cache so it can be accessed without trampling vegetation. Please place it back as you found it. The most direct route I know of is to actually enter Dixon Lake and park at a trail head for Daley Ranch at 33 9.922 117 2.767. On weekends and holidays there is a $5 entry fee for cars. Come on a weekday and it is free. You can also park for free everyday in the dirt parking lot at the end of La Honda Drive. It can be used for both Dixon Lake and Daley Ranch. Both parks are open daily 6AM to dusk. While Daley Ranch allows dogs on leashes Dixon Lake does not, which is why I have listed the "NO DOGS” attribute on the cache description. The cache can also be accessed by parking at 33 9.524 117 1.970 near the Humane Society. From this direction you are looking at a 2 ½ mile hike and you can bring your dog (or horse).

Marko Ramius is one of two reviewers for Groundspeak that are responsible for most of the Geocaches that get published in Southern California. They volunteer their time (meaning no pay) so that all of the caches you look for, or hide, can get published. Without them there is no Geocaching so I have hidden caches in their honor for what they have contributed to my one and only hobby.

BACKGROUND:
According to recently declassified material Marko Alexandrovich Ramius is a Lithuanian by birth that rose to the highest levels in the Navy of the former U.S.S.R. He defected to the United States in 1984 along some of his officers and the experimental nuclear submarine Red October, a Typhoon-class submarine equipped with a revolutionary stealth propulsion system. It is believed his defection was spurred by several factors, in particular, the bitterness over the death of his wife due to a doctor's incompetence. This doctor happened to be the son of a high-ranking Politburo member thus the doctor could not be punished. This coupled with Ramius' long-standing dissatisfaction with the callousness of the Soviet establishment towards its people is believed to have inspired Ramius to betray his native country.

A NEW LIFE:
Since the mid eighties Ramius has led a quiet life of leisure in his adopted country spending his time hiking, fishing, and pottery making. He became an avid geocacher early on in the sport's history, which led him to become a reviewer.
