Geocache Description:

probably about a mile and a half walk all together, some pretty steep up hills, take water. this is off in the back woods.

if ((navigator.appName == "Microsoft Internet Explorer")) {document.write("") } else if ((navigator.appName == "Netscape")) {document.write("") } As the name implies, this cache is only 200 easy steps from the start point. The trick is, where is the start point. Which way do you go. You wont be able to use your GPS once you get to the start point. What you need is a good old fashioned lensatic compass, the ability to figure out a pace count, a 1 over 50 thousand topographic map of Suches Ga, Sheet # 4153 II Series V745 and the ability to convert your GPS to the Military Grid Reference System. Now don’t panic, if you don’t have the map, its ok, it would just help you find your bearings. And help you figure out the conversion (kinda) for your MGRS thing.

So. I’m going to give you a start point of 34 35.793 84 02.693. This will put you in a gravel parking area of an off road recreation area, there is a parking fee required here.

Now for the first tricky part. You have to convert your GPS to MGRS. My three Garmins do this, if yours does not. I’m not sure what to tell you here.

You will notice a Sign in the parking area, if you look closely at the map, there are some trails marked 6 and 7, this is the general area of the cache and where you will be heading towards the true start point of 200 easy steps. You need to get to GP 70533187. Here you will find a weird looking tree that is shown in photo labeled weird tree.

From the weird tree, you need to travel on a 214-degree azimuth for 41 paces. To get you started, this will keep you on the trail for 41 paces; at this point you will be on a small hillock. From here you change to an azimuth of 278 degrees for 65 paces, at this point you will find yourself standing in some large dead fall, look closely around there is a key chain hanging on a branch that will give you the next azimuth. It is only there to verify your position, so don’t remove it. Now change to an azimuth of 194 degrees for 47 paces and you will find another large tree with a funky notch in the bottom of it. There you will find another key chain (a 10k one) telling you to go 47 more paces on a 227-degree azimuth. Don’t take that key chain either please. Here you will find the cache at GP 70403170. Under a Lg Bent Twig. Refer to pictures of Lg Bent Twig. Now for some hints.

Pace count. That is a normal step for me. I am 6’2” 185 lbs and have a normal stride of about 28 to 34 inches. You determine you’re pace count accordingly.

The Azimuths are all Magnetic. Meaning you don’t have to do any conversions. Just let the compass do the talking.

You will be in an ORV area. Be very careful. You are on their turf. Don’t think that you have the right of way by you walking. Refer to picture of Wild animals on the loose. They are hell bent on going as fast as they can, and don’t realize that you are standing in the middle of the trail, THEY WILL RUN OVER YOU.

The picture of the map can be printed. It actually comes out pretty good. But it’s not to scale. Just use it as a reference if you cannot obtain the real thing.

You really don’t need to do much bushwacking here. If you use some smarts and don’t try to go straight line, You will mostly stay on a trail. Have Fun.

P.S. The cache is in a large ammo can and has some pretty neat stuff in it. PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ANY FOOD, HAPPY MEAL TOYS or COMBS IN IT. Thanks and enjoy, The Black Knight
