Ever been up a creek without a paddle? If not, here's your chance. Total hike just over a mile round trip, starting out along a regular trail which turns into stream bed. If you find yourself tempted to bush-whack, you're going the wrong way. I forgot a pen, so please bring (or leave) one.
Treasure-hunting grrl loves coming here to do what she calls "rock skipping". This entails jumping (or "skipping") from rock to rock while crossing a stream. She manages to mostly stay dry when the water level is low, such as in summer, but she's an adventurer so we came in the middle of the winter, when rock skipping would be at it's most challenging.
Actually, it was replacing the nearby Sausal Creek cache (GCGGT4) that motivated us to come here today after the rains stopped. After finishing putting a replacement cache there, since we really hadn't had to cross the swollen creek, THG started pleading to go "rock skipping". We both had water-resistant footwear, so I acquiesced. After passing the Sausal Creek cache, the trail is non-existent in places, so following the stream bed becomes a necessity. If you have waders, you might consider wearing them. My 6 year old girl could handle the hike simply wearing her boots, but you be the judge of how well prepared you want to be.
I'd recommend parking 1/2 mile south of the cache on El Centro Avenue near N37 48.447 W122 12.958 or in the parking lot near GCTNRA and taking the flat, scenic trail. Bring your water-loving dogs, but have a towel in your vehicle to dry off Bowser.
