replacing "Sävsjökanalen"

Sävsjökanalen Sävsjöen var fram till 1800-talet en av Arvikabygdens största lerslättsjöar. För en vexande befolkning började på denne tid bristen på åkermark bli alltmer kännbar runt om i landet. Ett sett at utvinna mer mark samt at «inom Sveriges gränser vinna Finland åter» var at sänka vattennivån i sänkmarker och grunda lerslättsjöar. Redan på 1840-talet lät patronen på Agnetebergs gård, Axel Hjalmar Edgren, spränga en dräneringskanal, som sänkte några mossar vid Sävsjöens södra ända. Det var dock först på 1850-talet som tankan på att torrlägga hele sjön tog fastare form. År 1856 bildades ett bolag bestående av Edgren samt ett tiotal hemmansägare i Högvalta, Mellbyn, Rud og Kälkersrud. I Sävsjöen oversteg vattendjupet nästan ingenstans 2 m och botten bestod av ca 2 m slamjord og lerunderlag men mycket liten steninblandning. Sjösenkningsprosjektetavsåg at fordjupa sjöns naturliga avlopp. Sävsjö Canal Sävsjö was until the 1800s one of the largest «shallow seas»in the Arvika district. For a growing population the lack of arable land become increasingly felt around the country. One way of extracting more land, and «within Sweden, win Finland back», was to the lower the waterlevel in the marshes and shallow lakes. Already in the 1840s the landowner on Agnetebergs gård, Axel Hjalmar Edgren, detonate a drainage channel, which lowered some bogs at Sävsjös southern end. However, it was only in the 1850s that the tought to dry up the whole lake took firmer shape. Published in 1856 a company composed of Edgren and a dozen home owners in Högvalta, Mellbyn, Rud og Kälkersrud was formed. In Sävsjö the depth nowhere was more than 2 m and the bottom consisted of about 2 m sludge soil but very small stone involvement. The project was deepening the lake's natural drainage
