This is a simple traditional cache.
As the suburbs of Adelaide spread towards the foothills the water supply authority found it necessary to acquire land and build storage tanks to balance supply and demand and to provide adequate pressure to the foothills suburbs.
A few years ago SA Water decided that the storage tank on land between Penfold Road and Edinburgh Avenue at the top of Stonyfell was sufficient to meet needs and put part of the land on the market.
A local Councillor felt that the land had significant environmental value and he recruited about ten dedicated residents to campaign for its preservation. The Council agreed to buy the two blocks if the group could raise 10% of the asking price – a challenging target.
By hard work, personal donations, garage sales, door-knocking and a sizeable contribution from Boral the required money was raised and donated to the Council who purchased the land in 2003.
The land was named the Blue Gum Reserve and a Management Plan prepared. The area has been fenced, cleared of weeds, a seat and dog-poo bag dispenser installed.
The local residents gratefully say ”Thanks very much” to those dedicated people who were prepared to back their convictions. They firmly believed Margaret Mead who said,
Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has.
You are looking for a 1 L black-painted Sistema container.
