An easy walk along a country lane in Diggle.
If arriving by car, park near the Diggle Hotel or if by bus alight at the terminus nearby. Walk up the narrow lane which leads between the cottages and across the fields.
The statue is of the Israeli commander Jephthah. He vowed that if God gave him victory in the imminent battle he would sacrifice to God the first living thing he saw on his return home. Unfortunately this proved to be his young daughter who came out of the house to greet her victorious father. She humbly acquiesced in her fate and the statue shows Jephthah in the act of carrying out the bloody deed. It has suffered somewhat from the ravages of time.
