Geocache Description:

Chatterbox Falls is located at the head of Princess Louisa Inlet. A small inlet off Jervis Inlet and North Northwest of Vancouver, British Columbia. The Falls originates from the Loquilts River and is over 40 meters (120ft) in height. Visiting this site will bring you to one of the most spectacular locations on the coast of British Columbia. The pure beauty and geological settings makes for an exceptional opportunity for learning about earth sciences. A large part of the boating community is well familiar with Princess Louisa Inlet.

This area can only be reached by boat or float plane. There is a 200 meter float nearby which supplies access to the Falls and to Princess Louisa Marine Provincial Park.

Princess Louisa Inlet is 300 meters (1000ft) deep and not over 800 meters (1/2 mile) wide at any given spot. It is five miles (eight kilometres) in length.

Glaciation of Millennia past carved the granite-walled gorge through the mountains that rise very sharply up from the waters edge (some places at low tide there is no beach at all).

There are many different types of water falls. Examples are:
A Fan Waterfall - The water falls through a relatively narrow crest and spreads out and becomes wider as it descends;

Plunge/Vertical - The water descends vertically without contact with the surface;

Ribbon falls - Water descends in a narrow strip signifcantly taller than it is wide.

While visiting the falls, you will have an opportunity to view the MacDonald Pavilion. It is a unique structure built out of logs and is circular. The Pavilion was built in memory of James F. MacDonald who donated his property to be used as a park by the boating community.

Chatterbox Falls is managed by BC Parks with the cooperation of the Princess Louisa International Society.

A note of interest:
James Bruce Falls (unofficial name) is upstream from Chatterbox Falls. This waterfall stems from a small snowfield and cascades down 2755 ft (840m). This waterfall is the highest waterfall in the continent of North America.
