Geocache Description:

A small cache on the Old Inland Empire Highway west of Benton City.

This cache is placed on the southern edge of an area that is named on USGS Topographic maps as "the Badlands". The area the cache is hidden in is strewn with car to small house size stacks of basalt left from the erosion of the Yakima River into the basalt. The area on top the the bluff has a similar rough erosional terrain with some pothole lakes (called the Badland Lakes on maps). Apparently most of that is on private land.

The cache is a camod peanut butter jar. There is a dirt road that can take you within 50 feet of the cache (beginning where it leaves the paved road may be too bumpy for non-high clearance vehicles, so you may have to park and walk from there or from along the highway). Terrain rating of 2.5 is for the loose rock surface that you will have to walk on near the cache. Watch for snakes in warm weather.

There is a FTF prize of an unactivated CITO geocoin with a matching pathtag. Please rehide the cache as good or better than you find it.

Three other caches are close by: our "Chandler Pump" cache, Caching Clary's "Chandler Cache", and YeOleImposter's "Basalt Heights" cache.
