Glücklicherweise kennen wir
den Namen des mythischen Berges: Similaun.
Dieser dürfte auf ein altes Samaluana zurückgehen, worin drei
bekannte Wortwurzeln zu erkennen sind: sam-alu-ana. Sam bedeutet
weiß, glänzend, alu ist göttlich bzw. Göttin und ana der Eigenname
der Ahnfrau, nämlich Ana. Similaun bedeutet somit die Weiße Göttin
Ana.
Der Similaun ist mit 3606 Metern der 7. höchste Berg Österreichs.
Der eisüberzogene Berg liegt in den Ötztaler Alpen im
österreichischen Bundesland Tirol. Er liegt genau auf der
Staatsgrenze zwischen Österreich und Italien (autonome Provinz
Bozen-Südtirol). Auf dem 3210 Meter hoch gelegenen nahen Tisenjoch
befindet sich die Fundstelle des Mannes vom Similaun, einer 5300
Jahre alten Gletschermumie. Der Similaun liegt etwa vier Kilometer
Luftlinie nordöstlich des Vernagt-Stausees am oberen Schluss des
Schnalstals und 11 km südlich von Vent, einem Ortsteil der Gemeinde
Sölden im Ötztal.
Der Berg erhebt sich geografisch dominant über die umliegenden
Gletscher. Im Norden des Similauns liegt der südliche Zweig des
Marzellferners, im Osten und Süden erstreckt sich der Grafferner.
Nach Südwesten hin fällt der Berg steil in ein Schotterfeld mit dem
Namen Similaungrube hinab. Der Ötztaler Hauptkamm zwischen Similaun
und Karlesspitze befindet sich in einer 12 Kilometer breiten Lücke
zwischen der Vinschgauer und Schneeberger Schieferzone. Die
Hauptkammgipfel bestehen in diesem Bereich aus Gesteinen, die
bewirken, dass die Gipfelregion des Similauns sehr steil aus der
Umgebung herausragt.

Um diesen Earth-Cache zu loggen müssen folgende Bedingungen
erfüllt werden:
1. Erstelle ein Bild von Dir am Gipfelkreuz als Beweis, dass Du
dort warst.
2. Beantworte folgende Fragen und sende sie per e-mail an den Owner
und warte auf die Logerlaubnis:
A) Welche Gesteine sorgen dafür, dass der Gipfel des Simliauns so
steil aus seiner Umgebung herausragt ?
B) An welchem Datum wurde der Mann vom Similaun (Ötzi) gefunden
(TT.MM.JJJJ) ?
Der Cache ist nur mit entsprechender Ausrüstung und
bersteigerischer Erfahrung zu finden. Der Charakter der Besteigung
erfordert das notwendige Equipement zur Begehung von Gletschern
(Seil, Steigeisen, Eispickel, etc.)
Fortunately, we know the name
of this mythical mountain: Similaun.
This is likely to fall on an old Samaluana, in which three
well-known wordroots can be identified: sam-alu-ana. Sam means
white, shiny, alu is goddess and ana or the proper name of the
matriarch, namely Ana. Similaun means the White Goddess Ana.
The Similaun is with 3606 meters the 7th of Austria's highest
mountains. This ice covered mountain is located in the Ötztal Alps
in the Austrian province of Tyrol. It is located exactly on the
border between Austria and Italy (Autonomous Province of
Bolzano-South Tyrol). At the 3210 m altitude at the near Tisenjoch
is the reference of the man from Similaun, a 5300 years old glacier
mummy. The Similaun is located about four kilometers northeast of
the distance Vernagt artificial lake at the upper end of the
Schnals-Valley and 11 km south of Vent, in the municipality of
Sölden in the Ötztal.
The mountain rises above the surrounding glaciers geographically
dominant. In the north of the Similaun you find the southern branch
the Marzell-Glacier and into the east and south the Graf-Glacier.
To the southwest of the mountain it drops steeply down into a dirt
field with the name Similaungrube. The Ötztal central ridge between
Similaun and Karlesspitze is located in a 12-mile-wide gap between
the Vinschgauer and Schneeberger shale zone. The summits of the
central ridge in this area consist of rocks, making it possible for
the summit region of Similaun protrudes steeply from the
surrounding area.

To log this Earthcache you have to perform the following
conditions:
1. Create a picture of yourself near the cross of the summit to
proof that you were on the top and load this picture to your
log.
2. Answer the following questions and send them via e-mail to the
owner and wait for log-permission:
A) Which kind of rocks make sure that the top of Simliaun sticks
out so steeply from its surroundings?
B) At which date the "man from the Similaun" (Ötzi) has been found
(dd.mm.yyyy) ?.
The cache is available only with appropriate equipment and
mountaineering experience. The character of the climb requires
equipment for a hike on a Glacier (rope, crampons, ice axe,
etc.)
