My son has been serving in the Peace Corps in Paraguay since September 2007, and recently requested and received a one-year extension. His new assignment will take him to the city of Caacupe where he will work for a Dutch NGO responsible for tree distribution throughout southern Paraguay.
Caacupe, founded in 1770, is the capital of the department of Cordillera, as well as the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Caacupe. It is also renowned as a pilgrimage site, drawing crowds of more than 300,000 during its December 8th Festival of Our Lady of the Miracles of Caacupe.
