Ganwhado is Korea's fifth largest island, and home to Jeungdeungsa, a temple located in a picturesque setting and a moderate walk up a well maintained path.
Jeungdeungsa is not one of the most impressive temples in Korea, but is the site of a half-dozen national treasures and historic sites. The various buildings are nestled on the side of a mountain valley with beautiful panoramas - stunning in the autumn!
There is ample parking near the entrance to the broad and well-maintained path, and there is a road leading to an additional parking area a little further up. There are absolutely charming traditional eating places along the path, which is a moderate climb.
The view from the temple area is worth the trip, especially in the fall when the leaves are colorful.
The cache is placed in the wall under the structure housing the main temple bell and drum. As always, use stealth as this is a well traveled area.
The cache is a small Lock-and-Lock container with just a few small trade items and a few sheets for a log. There is a spoiler photo in the gallery.
Gangwahdo is Korea's fifth largest Island, northwest of Incheon. There are two bridges that provide access to the island. The southern bridge is the closest to this temple. There are many other sites on the island including the Gangwha Dolmen, a registered UNESCO site, and on the northern tip, a Peace Pavilion perched on a hill overlooking North Korea across a mere kilometer of water. There are many interesting displays there as well.
