Årslev Engsø er en kunstigt anlagt sø, beliggende ved Brabrand-Årslev i Århus Kommune. Søens vandflade er ca. 100 ha stor, og dybden er op til 1,25 meter. Rundt om søen er der græsningsenge.
Etableringen af søen blev politisk besluttet i 2001-2002. I løbet af en årrække ventes søen stabilt at få en 70 ha stor, åben vandflade. Rørskoven og engene forventes hver især at få en tilsvarende størrelse. Formålet har været at nedsætte belastningen med næringsstoffer til Brabrand Sø og Århus Bugt, at tilføre området mere biodiversitet og stabilitet, og at forbedre de rekreative forhold i området.
Årslev Engsø-området har været dyrket i mere end 100 år. Engene langs Århus Å blev dog ofte oversvømmet i vinterhalvåret, og området blev derfor kunstigt afvandet allerede i 1930’erne. Siden blev dyrkningen af markerne år for år sværere, fordi jorden "satte sig”. Derfor blev det til sidst politisk og driftsmæssigt acceptabelt at "give området tilbage til naturen"'.
Årslev Engsø is an artificially created lake, located in Brabrand-Årslev Municipality of Aarhus. Lake's water surface is approx. 100 ha, and depth is up to 1.25 meters. Around the lake there is grazing beds.
The creation of the lake was politically decided in 2001-2002. During the years the lake is expected to have a stable 70 hectares large, open expanse of water. Reeds and meadows are expected each to have a similar size. The aim was to reduce the load of nutrients to Brabrand Lake and Aarhus Bay, adding more field biodiversity and stability, and improve recreation in the area.
Årslev Engsø area has been cultivated for more than 100 years. Meadows along the Århus Å was often flooded in winter and the area was artificially drained already in the 1930s. Ago was growing field year by year more difficult because the soil "sat." Therefore, it was finally politically and operationally acceptable to "give the area back to nature" '.
