Last year I was looking at a map of this area on my laptop and noticed what would be an unusual configuration of GPS coordinates. When I placed the cursor of my mapping program at a certain place, the coordinates came up nearly all fours. Thus was conceived the idea for placing a cache at this location.
Perhaps the easiest way to reach the cache is to head south off of US 33 at Alpena (Between Elkins and Harman) to Glady. When you arrive in Glady, take a left and then the next right and you will be on Forest Road 44. Drive south until you come to parking on the right at N38 45.352 W 079 44.751. Then walk just about a hundred yards south and the Beulah Trail trailhead (Tr310) is on the left side of the road.
There are two ways to get to the cache from Beulah Trail. You can hike 1.2 miles to County Line Trail (Tr311) and then turn right and hike approximately 1 mile, then bushwhack south to the cache, or you can bushwhack straight south off of Beulah.
The forest in this area is mostly beech and the undergrowth is scarce. There are some patches of greenbriers, but bushwhacking is relatively easy. Allow 3 or more hours of hiking time.
The cache is located under a pile of downed trees and limbs and is best reached from the downhill side. The container is made of clear plastic, with a white lid. Inside is another container for the log book. Please make sure you seal everything and put it back like you found it to prevent damage from moisture. There are some stones beside the cache that contain seashell fossils. Most of the stones you find in the forest in this area have fossils.
