The Heads (Waikato) Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Their are two roads you can park on to get down to the beach Moana Qy and Moerua St. You can park on the side of the road almost anywhere, nobody minds!! You may be able to see the big ships far out in the sea, getting the iron from the sand.
There is a track starting near the stream which will take you to the cache, if you lose it, it's OK, the area is harmless apart from a few wasps/bees on warmer days. Please hide the cache well afterwards as children often go up there.
The beach is wonderful in summer, with the black sand getting real hot. Feel free to swim in the river, but not near the heads or in the sea.
The Heads is the furthest point you can normally go when the tide is up, but if the tide is going out or just turned to come in, I recommend the walk past the heads 1.1kms to a beach called Willisons with a “small” pool to swim in. Just keep walking, you will go through a “trench”, across some rocks, and around a bay. You will know when you get to Willisons!
Enjoy this little town in the middle of no-where!
