The history of “Sosnowiec” coalmine goes through the
years, together with history of Sosnowiec, the city. The city owes
a lot, not only from coalmine but whole coalmine industry, starting
from times, even before the times of Renard family in Sosnowiec,
the entrepreneurs in coalmine industry.
It begun by end of 19th Century when opencast mine “Nadzieja
Ludwika” was transformed into coalmine “HR.
Renard”, that performed mining on deeper levels. At beginning
the coal mine was excavated only in area of Sielec, than excavation
was performed under city center and Srodula.(quarters of
Sosnowiec)
After Second World War, the name of coalmine was changed into
“Sosnowiec”, in 1949 for a short period of time, was
forced to change name into “Stalin”.
All around the coalmine, there were built new residential estates
with high block of flats, the company also founded part of St.
Barbara’s Hospital, as other buildings in Sosnowiec. The
coalmine sponsored also sport activeness of Sosnowiec residents,
giving funds to sport clubs.
Unfortunatelly, in late 80’s coal deposits started to run
out. The last tone of coal was excavated at end of year 1997, since
that time the shaft was closed down. In area of past coalmine new
companies started their activity here inside KSSE (Special
Economical Zone of Katowice)
The last view, that will bring memories of existing coalmine is the
office building and monumental shaft tower, underneath the cache
can be found.
The place is abandoned and dangerous! Please do not forget that
you have only one health and life!
At any case do not take young children with you, and please pay
maximum attention!

Historia kopalni „Sosnowiec” przeplata sie z historia
calego Sosnowca. To dzieki kopalni i przemyslowi górniczemu jeszcze
sprzed czasów rodziny Renard rozwijal sie nie tylko zaklad pracy,
ale i caly Sosnowiec. Dzieje kopalni siegaja konca XIXw. gdy
odkrywkowa kopalnia "Nadzieja Ludwika" przeksztalcona zostala w
kopalnie "Hr. Renard", która prowadzila wydobycie na znaczych
glebokosciach. Poczatkowo wydobycie prowadzono jedynie w okolicy
Sielca, pózniej chodniki siegnely Sródmiescia oraz Sroduli - z
drugiej strony.Po zakonczeniu II wojny sw. kopalnia zmienila nazwe
na "Sosnowiec", w 1949r. narzucono jej na krótko nazwe "Stalin".
Wokól kopalni rozbudowywaly sie kolejne osiedla, równiez z jej
pieniedzy (w czesci) wybudowano Szpital Sw. Barbary w Sosnowcu oraz
wiele innych obiektów na terenie miasta. Kopalnia sponsorowala
równiez rozwój fizyczny mieszkanców Sosnowca udzielajac funduszy
klubom sportowym. Niestety od lat 80-tych zloza wegla powoli
konczyly sie. Ostatnia tona wegla wydobyta zostala pod koniec
1997roku, od tego czasu szyb zostal zlikwidowany a na terenie
dawnej kopalni powstaja kolejne zaklady przemyslowe w Specjalnej
Strefie Ekonomicznej. O dawnej kopalni w tym miejscu przypomina
budynek dyrekcji oraz stara, zabytkowa wieza szybu, pod która
znalezc mozna skrzynke. Miejsce jest opuszczone i niebezpieczne!
Pamietajcie ze macie tylko jedno zycie i zdrowie!
W zadnym wypadku nie zabierajcie ze soba dzieci, a bedac tam
zachowajcie maksymalna ostroznosc! I nie ubierajcie sie w cos
bialego ;-)
