Geocache Description:

A Short walk around an old Land fill site in Northwich

THIS IS A NO SMOKING CACHE SITE - METHANE GAS

A special thanks go to the Ranger Peter Schofield for his help and permission to place this cache.

Access is available in the park at all times (unless there is an Emergency) but Marbury Lane and Witton Mill car parks are closed at 4pm from the 1st Nov to the 1st March. (Otherwise they get used AS the tip)

The Town Centre Car Parks are always open and Free.

Carey Park has been used to supply clay, - salt was mined from several mines on it. ICI used it to tip lime waste and other waste materials before it became a landfill site. Initially it was a Borough landfill taking local waste before industrial, commercial and domestic waste were deposited there.

The landfill stopped in the mid 90s. and now the park generates electricity from methane extraction which is fed into the National Grid.
