Not far from Gandalf's Library
Gandalf first learned of the Ring-inscription when he read the account that Isildur (in what looked like a library somewhere in Middle Earth) had written before marching north to his death and the loss of the Ring. When Isildur had cut the Ring from Sauron's hand, it was burning hot, and so Isildur was able to transcribe the inscription before it faded. When Gandalf subsequently heated the ring that Bilbo Baggins had found and passed on to Frodo the inscription appeared, and the wizard then had no doubt that it was the One Ring.
One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them,
One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
In our World
This park was purchased in 1923 for £2,792. The stone entrance gateways from Barrington Street and Simeon Street were donated by William Hinnels Winsor (1876-1936), a former mayor of Spreydon.
The park has a number of uses and has the Spreydon Library, Shopping mall next door and a neat playground, so bring the little Hobbits with you.
