Bring your own pencil and some tweezers. Please, no searching after sunset. And although it probably doesn't need to be said, here it is: please respect the privacy of those that may be there tending gravesites. Parking is ample, the nearby road is relatively quiet, this cache is kid safe.
In 1837 four Oakland County couples came to this area, known as Maple River. They were soon followed by a dozen families. The community church and octagonal schoolhouse were designed and built under the guidance of the Reverend George M. Reynolds, son of one of the pioneer settlers. Soon after the cemetery was established. Mr. Reynolds served for many years as minister of the church and was also the first teacher when the school opened in 1850. Several of the original settlers still reside in this area.
